We agreed as a group that we should not play in the club fourball
competitions, one per month, but would enter if singles competitions were
played. This was so we would not be in breach of the R&A
Rule that states only one competition may be played during a round of golf.
The exception would be the Christmas Fayre competition. |
 |
We also discussed slow play and it was agreed that a conscious effort be
made to speed up when playing and that all players should be 'ready to
play'. The
'ready
to play' website should be required reading for all TOGS. |
 |
One player had resigned mid season last year making our complement 17.
After much debate and a couple of votes it was agreed by a majority of those
at the meeting to leave things as they are and not accept the two new
applications we had received for membership. |
 |
The draw will be made at 9.55am and all players should be ready to play at
10am. Latecomers will automatically go off last.
Early starts are OK for those needing to rush off somewhere (St James' /
weddings etc etc). |
 |
Subs stay at £10 per month or £60 for the season (including lottery). |
 |
Scoring system & handicap reductions: No change - see below.
|
 |
The season starts on Sat 3rd October 2009 and finishes Saturday 27th March
2010
Any play off if required must be played before April 10th. |
 |
TOGS on Tour Weekend: Friday 11th June - Sunday 13th June
2010
Venue to be decided by Duncan McCree and Tony Sarginson in consultation with
Willy Smith. |
 |
The venue for our 'Christmas' meal is the Battlesteads Inn at Wark,
including B&B.
Saturday 28th November 2009. Deposit of £60 required
immediately. |
 |
Frank Graham Trophy: Is a singles competition and any change is
'as well as' and not 'instead of'. |
 |
It was suggested, and informally agreed, to hold a presentation night
sometime in April as soon as is possible after season has finished.
Doug Walker offered congratulations to Willy Smith on his forthcoming
appointment as TGC vice captain and therefore Club captain in season 2010 -
11. Hear hear said all.
|
 |
The meeting finished at 9.35 ...................................... |
 |
We had one resignation. One person had expressed an
interest in joining and would therefore be invited to join to keep our
numbers at 18. |
 |
The draw will be made outside and not in the clubhouse at 9.55am so that the
first group is "ready to go" at 10am if the ball tube allows. |
 |
We agreed that a couple of away days in Nov & Feb (possibly) was a good idea
and that the scores would count in the league. |
 |
A new scoring system would be used this winter:- |
 |
All players start at club handicap and can never go above that as posted on
the official list. |
 |
The SSS for the winter will be 68 which equates to 34 Stableford points and
all handicaps are to be reduced using TGC's system which is:-
0.1 for handicaps 0 -5
0.2 "
6 - 11
0.3 "
12 - 18
0.4 "
19+
Scores outside of designated buffer zone (29 points or less) will result in an increase of 0.1 up
to their club handicap. |
 |
The sweep will be based on best front nine, best back nine and best total at
50p/50p/50p. Any tied scores will result in the 50p going into
the club kitty. |
 |
A Scotsman and an OAP refused their entitled refund from our away day this
season and Cap'n Bob said it should be recorded in this report.
Happy to oblige Bob. |
 |
The Frank Graham Cup will remain as a singles competition. |
 |
The season will start on Saturday 11th October and finish on 4th April 2009
If a play off is required it will be played on 11th April 2009 |
 |
The TOGS on Tour venue to be chosen by Eddie Stothert, Alan Ross and Dave
Rowntree.
Suggested date is 19th, 20th & 21st June 2009 |
 |
The venue for our 'Christmas' meal is the Battlesteads Inn at Wark,
including B&B.
Saturday 29th November. |
 |
By a slender majority it was agreed to invite a non member to above 'do'. |
 |
The TOGS AGM was very productive and a couple of tweaks were made
to our Rules for the coming season.
|
 |
Rule changes can only be made at an AGM.
|
 |
New and potential members names must be submitted at AGM for
consideration by all TOGS present.
|
 |
Players shall assemble around 9.45am so that the draw can be made at
9.55am for a 10am tee off wherever possible.
|
 |
Each player must submit a signed and witnessed scorecard, otherwise that
score is invalid.
|
 |
The winner will be cut by 2 shots and the runner up by 1 shot each week
in addition to the amended scores as below:
|
 |
A handicap reduction of 1 will apply to all scores of 37 or more (was
36).
|
 |
An additional handicap reduction of 1 will apply to scores of 40 or more
(was 39)
|
 |
These reductions are across the board regardless of the player's
finishing position.
|
 |
If a player does not finish in the top 10 for three consecutive weeks
his handicap will be adjusted upwards by 0.5.
|
 |
A player's TOGS handicap cannot be more than his club handicap.
|
 |
Common sense will be applied to teeing up on the fringes around the
green if it is obvious no divot will result because of a finesse shot.
|
 |
Re subscriptions: £10 per calendar month (to include
lottery).
|
 |
TOGS on Tour will be played at the end of the season : 11th - 13th April
2008
|
 |
Christmas night out should include the wives and be a meal only instead
of a 'Hotel party' night.
|
 |
The Frank Graham Trophy will remain as a singles competition but a
fourball better ball completion is to be played also.
|
 |
Willy has a comprehensive set of Rules which are available to all.
|
Main points resulting from the AGM (2nd September '06)
Any player not teeing up in accordance with the local winter rule shall be
penalised by 2 shots. A stroke with the putter is exempt.
Players guilty of slow play will be shot at dawn. In accordance
with local rule, any players who have lost a hole in front must give way and
allow the group behind to play through without request.
The TOGS shall meet and submit their own card at 9.45am so that the draw can
be made at 9.55am for a 10am start. Early starters on
NUFC match days leave their card at bar.

Birdies as per #8 (last year below) was defeated 8 - 7 in a vote (three were

Presentation Sat 14th April '07.
A Christmas night out sub committee of Alan Ross / Mike Potts / Dave

(fat chance of that).
At 12.45am the meeting finished and cocoa was provided where needed.
Main points resulting from the AGM (10th September '05)
Countback will be brought into line with Tynemouth Golf Club Rules.
Therefore it will be based on Front 9 / front 15 / front 6
It was agreed that in addition to the normal reduction for 1st and 2nd
place, handicaps will be reduced as follows for anyone scoring 39 points or more:-

10 -18 hcp = 2 shots: 19+ hcp = 3 shots.
Any player who scores 36 points (min) is pulled by 1 shot too.
Players cards to be handed in for the draw at 10am for a 10.15am tee off (we
hope).
Latecomers will have to play at the back of the field once the draw is done.
Subs = £5 / month
The Frank Graham trophy will be a singles competition this season.
Birdies will be worth 10p per man / eagles 20p per man, except for the early
birds on NUFC match days.
In the event of a hole in one - Each player will pay £1 and have a sip of
the resultant brew.
All 'TOGS' will play in Club competitions as they arise during the winter.
Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are part of our winter schedule.
You must seek permission from your nearest and dearest of course!
Season finishes Saturday 1st April 2006.
Added in Jan 2006: If there is a tie at the end of the season
the players involved must play off using their final TOGS handicap over 18
holes of stableford. Therefore the season will
officially end on Saturday 25th March 2006 to allow for this possibility.
Format / Rules
Throughout the Winter months 18 like minded souls have formed a happy little
band and we are collectively known as the 'TOGS'.
The format is simple - ? - each player starts the season playing off his
official club handicap. The weekly winner automatically has his
handicap reduced by 2 shots. The runner up automatically has his
handicap reduced by 1 shot. Any other player who scores 36
points (min) is pulled by 1 shot too (see above)
I hope you are paying attention to these rules at the back, because I
shall be asking questions at the end!
If a player walks off the course simply because he is playing bad golf he
will be penalised by a handicap reduction as below.
9 hcp and under = 1 shot :
10 -18 hcp = 2 shots: 19+ hcp = 3 shots.
This will
not apply if the weather is abysmal / injury / illness or any genuine
emergency arises. It is a rule to prevent unsporting
discourteous behaviour.
All 'TOGS' will play in Club competitions as they arise during the winter.
The scores are recorded weekly and a league table will begin to take shape,
however only the player's best 6 scores will be counted.
Therefore after week 6 the league will start to take a meaningful shape, as
the stagger unwinds.
The only other rule of any consequence is that a player will not have his
handicap reduced if he has not beaten his lowest score (as per the league
table) even though he may have won or come in second place on that
particular week. This is a good rule as it does not penalise a
player who has turned up on a poxy day, and others have stayed in bed, and
wins in a reduced field. Equally, he will be rewarded if he
shoots a good score, that counts regardless of the turn out.
I hope the above makes sense and is helpful to readers of the site who are
not "TOGS", of which there are many.
