GREAT BRITAIN TRANSPLANT CRICKET CLUB
David Hookes Memorial Trophy Series
GBTCC v Australia
Tynemouth CC - 14th July 2006
1 Day Game - 45 overs per innings
With the Aussies one up in the series they had become odds on favourite with Boggy the Bookie to retain the trophy. It was vital that GBTCC did not lose this game or the Aussies could simply bat forever in the final Test match no matter what the result in the third ODI.
The weather was again hot and sunny. Another beautiful batting wicket and very fast outfield promised loads of runs at the home of Tynemouth Cricket Club.
Australia won the toss (again) and elected to bat.

After an opening stand of 97 between Nick Harris and Phil Walker, the first ever century was magnificently compiled by Chris Wills. A mixture of pure class and brute force saw the ball disappear to all parts, especially off my pies. John Wulff shared a partnership of 110 runs with Chris and Wulffy's contribution was just 17. Chris hit 19 fours and 1 six. How good is that?
Nigel Mills was again amongst the wickets with Mike Rice and Alex Chillcott very economical considering the carnage at my end!
In the dressing room before we went out to bat, skipper Colin Mitchell tried to gee us up but I am not sure if any of us deep down really thought the total was in reach.
Oh ye of little faith Marsh! Sorry Skip.

We had suspected Alex was a batting genius and he proved it at Tynemouth with one of the finest displays of attacking batting I and many others have ever seen. Fifteen fours and five sixes do not tell the full story. He was on 84 and proceeded to hit three consecutive deliveries for six to reach three figures. This was the first ever hundred by a GB player and will live long in the memory of all who witnessed it.
Skipper Colin Mitchell played a captain's innings from the other end in support of Alex and fully deserved his maiden fifty (53).
Result: GBTCC won by 6 wickets Series: GBTCC 1 - 1 ATCC
Men of the Match: Alex Chillcott (GBTCC) / Chris Wills (Australia)

Summary:
|
A fabulous game of cricket and both teams provided the crowd with glorious entertainment.
|
The two centurions Chris and Alex were brilliant.
|
Sadly, Alex would not be able to play in any more of the games due to family commitments. He will be a big miss.
|
The David Hookes Memorial Series just gets better and better.
|
The series is now level at 1-1. |
