Raising money and having fun.......
Details of GIG 7
Update on Gig 7:
Another very successful fundraiser, thanks to all of my
loyal supporters. Not only did I raise enough money to cover my
sporting costs for the coming year but I have also sent a cheque off
payable to the FHLTA - Freeman Heart & Lung
transplant Association -
to the value of £900 (21 March '06).
Thank You to everyone for your support.

Date =
Saturday 18th March 2006
Venue = Marden Community Centre
(formerly Marden Club)
Music by The Steve
Gilroy band
Comedian
Max Peters (Half of Maxie &
Mitch)
Tickets
= £10
including buffet.
Doors Open at 7pm.
I am having a change this year and one of my golfing partners, Paul
Keenan, who plays lead guitar in a rock band by the name of The Steve Gilroy
Band is providing the music. This is not Val Doonican or some
pretty boy band so be warned! The lads have headlined many a gig
and played at the fish quay festival in 2005 and received rave reviews.
For a glimpse of their play list and a sample of the music, check out their
excellent website -

The comedian is Max Peters, one half of the comedy
duo Maxie & Mitch, who are famous for their pantomime performances every
year in Newcastle. Mitch is Billy Mitchell who is now the lead
singer for Geordie pop legends Lindisfarne. As I could not
afford the two of them I settled on Max!

Just kidding - he is really funny.

To compete in the transplant games whether they be
British/European or World events is an honour but it also costs money.
As you will probably have gathered if you have read a
little bit "About Me", I have always been involved in sport as an
official/administrator or competitor and am therefore used to doing my fair
share of fundraising. There is more to playing football than
kicking a ball about, there is more to playing golf than hitting a little
ball into a hole and there is more to playing badminton than hitting
your shuttlecock over a net.
I have been attending or organising fundraising events
around my sport or 'Boys' Club since I can remember. It is
something that is now second nature to me, so if it has to be done you may
as well have fun doing it.

 |
The coming year 2006 could prove to be a costly year in
terms of competing in authorised sporting events.
|
 |
There is The European Heart & Lung Transplant Games in
Naples Italy - June.
|
 |
The British Transplant Games in Bath - August.
|
 |
The Golden Glove golf competition at Royal Musselburgh.
|
 |
CHUF charity golf day - TBA.
|
 |
The Aussie transplant cricket team - ATCC - are scheduled
to come over in early July and they will be attempting (unsuccessfully) to
retain the David Hookes Memorial Trophy they won in Oz in 2004.
|
 |
Games are due to be played at Percy Main CC,
Tynemouth CC as well as down in the south west / Bath area over a two week
period.
|
 |
I also need to attend meetings and net sessions on behalf of the GBTCC
at Edgbaston CC.
|
 |
That is a list of engagements, so far, that I am
aware of as at January 2006.
|
 |
As always if I manage to raise more funds than I need, I
will donate the surplus to the Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association
(see above).

 |
Gig 7 will be on Saturday March 18th,
